| January and February | Within 2 months after the end of the year, give every employee an annual statement (article 41). |

| 1 January 2027 | Salary increase of 2.5%. The minimum wage also rises, check salary group A (article 46). |
| 1 May 2027 | Salary increase of 1.3% (article 46). |
| June | Pay holiday pay of 8%, with the minimum from article 74 for employees aged 21 and over. By 30 June at the latest (article 73). |
| 30 June and 31 December | Employees aged 50 and over get employability hours, if they have been employed for 6 months (article 78). |
| July | The minimum wage rises. Check salary group A and the youth wages in group A. |
| Every year per employee | One function year more up to the maximum of the salary group, at the latest in the month in which the new function year starts (article 48). And a paid development day (article 90). |
| A month before the end | Fixed-term contract of 6 months or more: say in writing whether it is extended and on which terms (article 20). |
Rules that often go wrong
The cao rules that differ from the law or from other caos.
| Job grading | Compulsory with the Handbook Function Grading for the Motor Vehicles and Two-wheelers sector. You tell the employee the grading, the employee can object (article 15 and annex 5). |

| Salespeople | No job grading and no salary table. At least the minimum wage as base salary, the cao increases on the fixed salary (articles 7 and 51). |
| Sickness | Pay 100% for the first 6 months, then 90% for 18 months. The first 12 months at least the minimum wage (article 84). Report sick before 9.00 (article 82). |
| Overtime | Not compulsory, except in an emergency (article 32). The first 2 overtime hours plus 28.5%, after that and on Saturday plus 47%, Sunday and public holiday plus 85% (article 54). |
| Day window | Work outside Monday to Friday 7.00 to 20.00 gets a supplement of 30% or 50% (article 55). For commercial vehicles 6.00 to 18.30. |
| Fixed-term contracts | The statutory rule: at most 3 contracts in 36 months. Earlier work for you as a temp counts as one contract. Probation 2 months for a permanent contract or a contract of more than 6 months (articles 16 and 17). |
| Apprentices (BBL) | The salary of the job and age. The weekly school day is paid. No maximum number of fixed-term contracts (articles 18 and 88). |
| Salary group A | At 0 function years the statutory minimum wage, for young employees 50% to 90% of it. It changes on 1 January and 1 July (article 45). |

Frequently asked questions
For businesses that repair, service, sell, rent out, store, tow or inspect cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, caravans or trailers. So also for used car dealers. The cao has been declared generally binding, it also applies if you are not a BOVAG member.
If a garage also does body repair, that work usually falls under this cao. An independent body shop often falls under the Coachwork cao. Which cao applies depends on the work that takes most hours. In doubt, ask us.
The number of years someone has worked for you in their salary group from age 21. Every year one function year is added, up to the maximum of the group. For a new employee you may grant fictitious function years for experience (articles 44 and 48).
192 holiday hours per year at 38 hours a week. From age 50 employability hours are added. Part-time in proportion.
Pensioenfonds Metaal en Techniek (PMT). Participation is compulsory, also if you are not a BOVAG member. The employer deducts the employee's share of the premium from the salary.
